guidance for clients

Introduction

Peter Hunt Architects has been in operation for over 20 years. We have developed systems, procedures and a culture within the practice that achieves quality projects and satisfied clients.

We have set out below a basic guidance for clients so that our working methods can be understood from the outset. These procedures, together with our experience, ensures that the process progressing through a project is as rewarding for clients as possible.

 The Brief

We meet with prospective clients to discuss requirements and a general brief after which a fee proposal is provided for agreement. Once appointed we clarify the brief in more detail, listening to the clients’ requirements and expectations.

The Process

1 Outline Proposal     2 Sketch Design
3 Planning Submission     4 Detail Design and Building Regulations Submission
5 Production Information     6 Tendering for Contractors
7 On-site construction     8 Completion

Appointment of Consultants

In order for a project to proceed smoothly the appropriate consultants need to be appointed. Typically it is advisable to appoint a Quantity Surveyor shortly after appointing the Architect; we believe that having a highly competent independent cost adviser in which the client trusts is crucial to the success of every project. A Structural Engineer is appointed at the early stages of the sketch design.

Other consultants often required include the following, all of who we can recommend and have worked with successfully for many years:

Services Engineers
Landscape Designers
Party Wall Surveyors
Planning Consultants

Planning Applications

We will advise you on whether a planning application is required and guide the process. We have submitted many successful planning applications and will use our experience to your benefit.

The Tender Process

Typically we advocate that projects are tendered. We encourage clients to only use contractors who can demonstrate the highest level of quality, familiarity with the type of project proposed and who have exemplary references. There are many situations in which a traditional competitive tender might not be the most appropriate method of procurement. We will advise on the alternatives.

Appointment of Contractors

We have developed relationships with teams with whom we regularly work and can recommend on all aspects required.

Appointment of Suppliers

We have access to suppliers of goods and services and can assist in recommendations.

Contract Administration

We administrate the contract between the client and contractor. We verify how much the contractor should be paid monthly, and regularly inspect to ensure that the project is progressing as designed.
